Happy 4th of July
As you know,
it’s America’s birthday!
The Declaration
of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776. However, you may not
have known it took over 100 years before it was recognized as a federal
holiday.
Regardless, many Americans celebrate Independence Day by attending parades, picnics, concerts, and firework shows all while wearing the latest red, white and blue attire.
A few other fun
facts for July 4th, 2018 according to International Business Times:
·
150
million hotdogs and 700 million pounds of chicken will be consumed
·
200
million dollars will be spent on fireworks
Will you
contribute to these numbers this year? We certainly will. You might also have
to beat the heat with something to drink. Listed below is one of our favorite
recipes for a crisp and refreshing Red, White and Blue Sangria.
· 1 bottle white wine
· 1/2 cup strawberry Schnapps
· 1/4 cup white sugar
· 2 cups freshly sliced strawberries, pineapple and blueberry
We mix it in a
clear pitcher for the best presentation, too! You can substitute sparking white
grape juice and blended frozen strawberries for a non-alcoholic version. *
Lastly, as the
hot weather sweeps across the Midwest and invites everyone outside, don’t
forget to apply sunscreen. Here are a few myths and facts regarding sunscreen.
Myth: For enough coverage on your face, you should use a silver
dollar drop.
Fact: Use a nickels worth for your face and about a shot glass
for your entire body.
Myth: One application is enough for the entire day.
Fact: You should apply sunscreen every two hours. “Lasts all day”
is a marketing tactic.
Myth: Some sunscreens are 100% waterproof.
Fact: No sunscreen is completely waterproof. Apply sunscreen
10-15 minutes before entering the water or participating in a watersport.
Re-apply afterwards.
We hope you have
a safe and wonderful 4th of July holiday!
